BIG wins competition for the Art Center host city of Sundance
The Danish office of the young architect Bjarke Ingels, BIG, recently wonthe competition for the extension of the Kimball Art Center in Park City (Utah)city where the Sundance Film Festival.
Currently the Kimball Art Center, with 35years of history, is basedon a two-storygarage.The proposal of this volume amount BIG structure 25 meters in heightcomprising two volumes twisted together at the top and rear of one another.
The project will begin construction in 2013 and be ready for 2015. The volume contains twisted inside a spiral staircase that leads visitors into a single section from the ground floor access to the roof at last. Exhibition spaces, arestaurant and souvenir shop are part of the program.
Are used as coating wooden beams stacked one on another as reminder of theconstruction and mining heritage of the city.
